Dreamweaver MX Assignment - Week 2 @ LVS Online
"In our last episode, Ø (formerly known as 'The Evil Wizard[ess]') had imprisoned our heroine (the Princess, aka The Slacker) in a dark tower room, the better to force her to create 'homework'.
"Unfortunately for our heroine, Ø has left her familiar high in the rafters of the tower to keep an eye on things. Seeing the princess remove a small television
and remote control from a hidden niche, Kaybat flitts off to alert Ø. SPLAT! Oops, missed the window... after 3 more failed attempts, Jaybat finally makes it out the window, albeit a bit wobbly on her wings.
"2 episodes of Star Trek and 10 steps later, Ø stumbles into the tower room, her gasping and wheezing for breath drowning out the ending credits playing on the television.
"AWK! Try to escape your homework will you???". Weakly waving her wand in the air,
she begins chanting an evil spell....
"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Sed urna turpis, feugiat ut, malesuada et, malesuada at, ipsum. Mauris sollicitudin ultricies odio. Suspendisse consectetuer tempor nisl. Morbi auctor, tellus vitae ullamcorper elementum, leo nulla euismod lectus, rhoncus iaculis tellus neque nec odio. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Nulla a enim. Cras nibh elit, mattis quis, rutrum ut, pretium sit amet, est. Aliquam faucibus porttitor nunc. Donec sed odio non nisl cursus tempus. Vivamus pharetra accumsan magna. Vivamus leo. Ut diam. Fusce imperdiet dictum felis. Morbi egestas. Sed porttitor ullamcorper leo. Duis mauris. Vivamus et elit!!!"
[Sheesh! Talk about long-winded!]"The magic wand sputters, sparks a bit and then lets off a cloud of foul smoke. Apparently, the batteries are dead. Not to be defeated, Ø shuffles forward and grabs the remote control.
"Why, you old meanie! I'll fix you, and your little flying rat too! You'll be sorry you interrupted my viewing of the TNG Marathon on TNT! [Advertisement: All day, January 19th. wink] You just see if I don't!"

"With those words, there was a loud WHAP and a puff of purple smoke. Out of the smoke, a small red devil appeared.... could it be? EEK!... it's The Brat (formerly known as ~a brat~)!
"Madly jumping up and down behind The Slacker, The Brat adds her 2¢ in a mumbling monotone:
"...that's right, I dare you... why not try... muhahahaha... she'll never know what hit her..."
What will our heroine do next? Will the Brat egg her on to even higher levels of mayhem? Will Kaybat finally make it out a window without hitting the wall first? And why is Ø paging through the phone book for Elevator companies?? Stay tuned for our next action packed adventure in....
Episode 3 - How long can I keep this up?
What did we learn in Episode 2?
- HTML Styles come in handy when you aren't allowed to use CSS for your homework.
- The <pre> tag doesn't always fit into the design of the page.
Also, it acts like a <div> tag in terms of breaking the line inside the paragraph.- Tip: When using an image as a hyperlink, if you don't want a border appearing around the image be sure to set the Image border to 0. [Of course, DW does this automatically for you when you attach a link to the image, but it never hurts to keep it in mind in case you are playing in the Code Inspector or decide you want a border indicating it is a link.]
![]()
- Favicons have been historically stored in the root directory where your index page is stored. However, by using the <link> tag in the Head section of your coding you can link each page to a specific Favicon instead of having just one for your site! Cool beans eh?
- That I couldn't come up with an eye-appealing example of using <br clear="all"> with my images and text. Maybe next week.
- That inserting nested BLOCKQUOTES can be used to position page contents away from a left border, but that it isn't necessarily the way to do it since it also impacts the right margin. Viewers with 800x600 resolution may not see your beautiful layout if you are working at a higher resolution -- instead, they will see a narrow column of text down the middle. Better to use the Page Properties Left Margin (IE)/Margin Width(NN) attributes and just one BLOCKQUOTE if you want to control the right margin. Even better to set the margins with CSS and get it over with... sigh.
- Inserting nested UL/OL tags do not impact the right margin of the list. So unlike BLOCKQUOTES they can be nested to position lists to your heart's content!
- ....and lots more! But you'll have to take the class yourself to find out what!
Now move aside... you're blocking my view of the TNG episode that's just starting.
